Job Title: Tax Manager
Department: Finance / Taxation
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Head of Finance
Job Purpose:
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing all tax-related activities including compliance, planning, strategy, and risk management to ensure the organization meets its tax obligations efficiently and accurately. The role ensures adherence to all local, state, and federal tax laws and supports business decisions with expert tax advice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Compliance:
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of direct and indirect tax returns (Income Tax, GST/VAT, TDS, Corporate Tax, etc.).
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings and payments.
- Maintain proper documentation and records in compliance with applicable laws.
2. Tax Planning & Strategy:
- Develop and implement effective tax strategies to optimize tax liability within legal frameworks.
- Analyze the impact of changes in tax laws on the company’s operations and financials.
- Provide strategic input on tax implications of business transactions, contracts, and new ventures.
3. Audits & Assessments:
- Handle tax audits, inquiries, and assessments from tax authorities.
- Prepare necessary documentation and liaise with auditors, legal advisors, and government officials.
- Defend the company’s position in case of disputes or litigation.
4. Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Strengthen internal tax processes and controls to minimize tax risks.
- Conduct periodic reviews of tax processes and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
5. Advisory & Business Partnering:
- Advise management on tax implications of corporate decisions, pricing strategies, and capital expenditure.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and operations teams to ensure tax-efficient operations.
6. Team Management & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise the tax team.
- Provide training and updates on tax laws and compliance requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (CA, CMA, CPA, or LL.B. preferred).
- 7–10 years of experience in tax management, preferably in a large or multinational organization.
- In-depth knowledge of domestic and international tax laws, including direct and indirect taxation.
- Strong experience with tax software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tally).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and interact effectively with stakeholders.
